The half-elf's eyebrows shoot up at the clarification, and his voice takes on a similar tone as before. "Either a judge, counsel, king, or some other political body, as far as the legal version goes. As for the emotion..." he pauses, looking at the monster with a mix of curiosity and confusion. "...the feeling of guilt, of being guilty, generally comes from a conscience, though I wonder if you can actually understand what that truly means..." The last sounds almost questioning, as though Vahn is attempting to confirm a theory.
(OOC: "Conscious", is that the right word? Feeling a bit lysdexic...)

"GUILT, is.. when you've been bad and you must make amends.." Xianna says as she draws her rapier. "Now, unhand that Prime or you will feel the repercussions of guilt." Xianna slowly tries to semi-circle to the Bebilith's flank, but not trying to provoke instant action.

The bebilith lets out a faint hiss -- the only actual sound it's made of yet -- as it considers Vahn and Xianna's explanations.
"WHY HAS GUILT HAPPENED TO ME?" it demands, the telepathic "voice" full of inhuman anger.

Nuuko watches the bebilith's monstrous face as the half-breed and tiefling reply to his inquiry. " If you feel guilt, you've probably done something you either knew you shouldn't have done..." the Prime's voice trails off for a second before he adds a bit more softly, and with a somewhat distant look in his eyes, " or wished you didn't have to do." The ruminating expression lasts for only a brief, flitting moment before his green eyes sharpen again and lock back on the spider-creature's hideous visage. (OOC: "Conscious", is that the right word? Feeling a bit lysdexic...) ((OOC: Conscience is the little voice in your head. Conscious means being in a waking and generally coherent state of mind.))

(OOC: Conscience, right, that's what I was aiming for! I'll go edit that in a sec)
Shooting a rather vicious and somewhat panicked-looking glare at the Defier, then looks back at the Bebilith calmly, though the pain from his leg is beginning to turn his face rather gray. "He said it best," he says, nodding to Nuuko, "but t' be honest, I can't figure out the dark o' how or why you would feel guilty."
What in the soddin' 'verse could make a fiend, and THIS fiend at that, feel guilt...?
Suddenly the half-elf's eyes light up. "Generally, the best way t' get rid of guilt..." His speech is rather fast, but he pauses to give weight to his words and ensure attention. "...is t' undo what you've done, help whom you've wronged, or, if those're impossible, act t' stop it from happenin' again."

Xianna couldn't wrap her head around why this thing was touched by guilt. She realized it's confused because it's been touched by a powerful emotion that it doesn't understand..... But she doesn't care. Hardly EVER being stuck by guilt herself, she couldn't empathize with the bebilith. With a flick of her tongue she says, "You barmy fiend, go back to the lower planes and hash out your problems there."
OOC: ARGG, I had to reboot Windows and lost all my bookmarks! Can someone please link me to the Planar Cant thread. AND, being my first Planescape game, I'm not sure if I am playing Xianna right, so any input would be nice! ;D

(You haz triangle-pwned its pitiful little conscience. ) The bebilith straightens up (or at least does the best a gigantic fiendish spider can do in equivalent) and, as the words sink in, slowly lowers its head. It looks to the obese Taker's still-bleeding corpse, then turns away (in... shame?). As quickly as the creature attacked, it vanishes in a blink, leaving no trace of to where it disappeared.

After the attack, Wilric dived to the side, only now has he started to get up and walk back into the clearing. "well then, how do you explain that? I'm pretty sure it would take some big magic to make one of those things feel anything like guilt... well now I think I know who killed Pascal" Wilric Sighed "Well now, what do ya want to do? Chase it?"OOC: sorry couldn't log on yesterday, lot of work

With a flick of her tongue she says, "You barmy fiend, go back to the lower planes and hash out your problems there."The towering elf shoots Xianna a withering gaze for a brief second before returning his attention to the deadly fiend-spider. This bebilith is conversing and not attacking -- which is apparently completely uncharacteristic -- and she seems intent on pissing it off.The bebilith straightens up (or at least does the best a gigantic fiendish spider can do in equivalent) and, as the words sink in, slowly lowers its head. It looks to the obese Taker's still-bleeding corpse, then turns away (in... shame?). As quickly as the creature attacked, it vanishes in a blink, leaving no trace of to where it disappeared. Unsure of exactly how this thing attacks, Nuuko crouches a bit and raises both blades defensively as the bebilith straightens up. After the Abyssal beast disappears, the Athasian exhales a relieved sigh and lowers his arms. "well then, how do you explain that? I'm pretty sure it would take some big magic to make one of those things feel anything like guilt... well now I think I know who killed Pascal" Wilric Sighed "Well now, what do ya want to do? Chase it?" " From what I've been told, it feeling guilt is as likely as it using portals or leaving the Abyss. I'll see if I can find any trace of it's passing, I'll return in a moment." Without waiting for comment or permission, the tall, quick elf darts back out of the clearing, heading in a direction opposite from the portal by which they arrived.

"Huh, whaddya know, we scared the big bad spider off," Xianna said with a shrug, sheathing her rapier. "What now?" she wonders aloud. As far as she knew, she was just supposed to find out why the thing was here, now it's grown a conscience. Just great, track a bebilith, REASON with it, and maybe kick it back down to it's own plane, riiiiiight, she thought. I miss the Blood Pit. "You alright there Vahn?" Xianna asked, not out of concern but for the mere fact that she really didn't need to be toting around a wounded Prime in an Upper Plane. She kicks around in the dirt, waiting on Nuuko's return.

During his few minutes out running, Nuuko crests a hill and spots the source of the lights (what Gl'Fnak saw in Chapter I, where that group is now).
(Moving the tree enough for Vahn to get out from under it requires a successful strength check, with a die roll of 14 or higher. Several people trying to move it add their successful rolls together, or 1 point for each failed roll.)
Apart from the broken tree, there is no sign that the bebilith was ever here -- it left no tracks on entry or exit.

A few minutes after he disappears, Nuuko jogs back into the clearing a few yards away from where he left it. He looks silently at the others for a few seconds each and then at the dead Taker's body. Gesturing over his shoulder in the direction he just came from he speaks in his normal raspy voice, "there's a hill back that way, maybe half a mile. From the top of it I saw a moderate sized stone dwelling, the distance is hard to approximate, most of the land around is pretty flat. It's not well fortified, but it sits at a fork in a river, water on both sides as we approach. There's worn paths that indicate either a bridge or good crossing, but it's hard to see from this far. No signs of the bebilith anywhere though."

Vahn watches the spider with ever-widening eyes, only blinking again after it vanishes. Ignoring both the Athar's question and the tree presently crushing his leg, he twists around to pull out a quill, ink jar, and parchment from his pack and begins writing frantically, using his closed book as a surface. "Absolutely fascinating..." he mutters to himself. "This could aide in unravelin' all the secrets o' this plane. O' fiends too for that matter." He shifts and suddenly bites off a yelp, turning to glare at his leg. "You bashers mind gettin' this soddin' tree offa me?" Without waiting to see if help will indeed be given, he goes back to his writing.
[whisper=admin]Not t' mention the Guvners would pay a fortune for this! Think o' what they could do by exploitin' such a thing... actually, I might have t' remain poor. That might be a bit too much power t' give away for bit o' jink.[/whisper]

"Barmy lil....." Xianna mumbles as she gets on one side of the tree, ready to lift.
OOC: I assume that even if we roll at different times, it will be a joint effort to free Vahn's leg?

"Barmy lil....." OOC: I assume that even if we roll at different times, it will be a joint effort to free Vahn's leg? (Yup. Unfortunately, the first roll is a fail by 1, so we still need a total of 13 points on successful checks to get him out of there. Vahn is only partially stuck, and would be able to contribute as well.)
