The Athasian elf gets a pride-filled look in his green eyes as he is asked about his tribe - the thing above anything else to which he gives his allegiance. "The Night-Runners are quick and efficient. We raid our enemies camps and settlements by the light of Ral and Guthay. And we barter and haggle with the best of the merchants from Urik to Draj and across the Great Ivory Plain. Children throughout Tyr are told tales of us to silence them at night. But above all of this we run free and live in the Now."

waxes suprisingly philosophical. Maybe it's the seasickness or the sunburn that pinks his naturally dark skin. "But the now is ephemeral, as fleeting as the future. Only the past, dusty relics remain of ourselves. Look at the loot that's being divided among us, Nuuko. That's all that will remain of us. A bit of gold, a bit of metal, maybe some bones. It's legends, these tales that silence children, which to me are most important." John looks over at Nilou, "It's why she's the most dangerous of any of us, because she can choose to remember who she likes, in the tales she will tell."

"It's the ephemeral that we seek, though I agree with you...looking to the future is worthless. When the future becomes the Now you can live it, but dwelling too long on the unchangeable past is futile." The lanky Prime hangs the Githyanki collar around his neck and nods contentedly.

"I disagree. About looking to the future. I wish we'd get on with this and get to... I don't know, the actual exploring part. I'm interested to see what Piers and Robert are looking for, exactly. Or more precisely, in knowing what they expect to find. That could be valuable, too, in a way. At least as far as the danger goes. We'll be depending on Fishy, of course."

"I'm anxious to be able to stretch my legs in the desert and to see how these ruins compare to those of Magehome or Kalidnay." The intrigue of what could be seen seems to distract the elf from his haughty tone. But the reprieve from his egotism is brief. "I'll concede that while around all this 'water' Fishy may be needed...once we're in the unforgiving wastelands and simply having water is of primary concern, you'll appreciate someone experienced in the terrain."
