Rhenai cocks an eyebrow at her words. "I wonder what she meant by that" he muses. He then waves a hand over the cases in his hand, muttering some words under his breath
[whisper=admin]I am casting Identify. Care to enlighten me on the spells I have recieved?[/whisper]

"It seems to me that I have something..." the gith says to himself as he glances through the other book at his disposal, leaving Vatndir to think over his decision. He taps the tome with one bony index finger. "It was one of the first uncommon spells added to our libraries, newly researched around the time of the Society's first charter. 'Blood Bridge.' Positive Energy-based Necromancy... it says here that the spell never gained popularity, as too many mages died in its use while trying to heal others." He looks back up to Wraith, smoothing down his neatly-trimmed goatee. "While it may not be directly useful to you, it might aid you in your research. I can provide you with a copy for twenty-five gold pieces. Wraith arches an inquisitive eyebrow, and perks up noticeably at the brief mentioning of the spell and it's effects. While very little was said to clarify exactly what it did, it was enough to capture her interest. Yes, it would be an ideal starting point for her research, and may even offer further insights into unlocking the fundamental dark of Positive Energy. "Yes, that will do just fine. Thankyou, cutter." She says with a polite nod, and a hint of an appreciative smile. Wraith carefully unties the strings of her concealed coin-purse, and counts out the correct amount of jink in front of the Gith. Each gold piece that passes through her black sheathed fingertips, has long since lost it's lustre, indeed collecting traces of sweat and grease, with the passage through countless hands in the Cage. Once the coins have changed hands, she waits patiently for the Gith to produce her newly acquired spell.

"I would indeed be quite interested. Water as a weapon is something I imagine quite helpful." Vatndir shifted closer, assuming a more pleasant stance and a social demeanor, "And while the price does seem fair, I think it would make sence if I could make sure its not something I already know, a quick glance so to speak. Also, as I know quite a bit of water magic, I wonder if perhaps you wouldn't be interseted in seeing what water things I do have; or seeing if its possible I might be able to better improve this spell as a fair deal for us both. Either way, I would be delighted to continue discussing it with you."
[whisper]If it is at all possible to work the bluffing into a con for lower price, or a spell swap, I'd like to do so. [dice=20+10]. Also, is there any way to "memorize" and copy a spell later based upon a viewing? Or is that impossible in D&D? [/whisper][rand=544244857746540475287836074221292515501193608053439983191439964344]

"You -- Blood Bridge, at once," the gith tersely demands of another passing runner, who gives only a faint hand gesture in acknowledgement on his way toward the library.
The attendant addresses Vatndir again. "I have two rare spells of the second house that might interest you. The first allows limited control over a body of water. The spellslinger creates a crude arm from it, capable of overturning a raft or killing a stout man in armor with one blow. The second gives your target a consuming need to drink. Twenty-five gold pieces for either... I'm prepared to take forty-five for both."
A few eyes widen as the fire genasi begins to cast a short spell, but the act of public spellcasting is by far less alarming in present company than it would be elsewhere in the Cage. When someone murmurs the word "Divination" to assuage any startled onlookers, activity promptly returns to its prior buzz.
[whisper=Rhenai, Stix]Just for your reference: Identify is for enchanted items, while scrolls and the like fall under Read Magic.
The first scroll case holds a spell of the second house: Scorching Ray. The second is full of harmless crawling insects, most of them dead. The third contains a spell key guide to the plane of Ysgard -- a several-page diagram of various runes and how they correspond to the schools of magic, and a few details on the plane's effect on spells in general. The fourth is stuffed with an oily rag -- when Rhenai removes and unwads it to look for anything hidden, he discovers some form of magical notes in the haphazard stains. Unfortunately, the spell alone isn't enough to make sense of it... he'll have to find another source of info on the matter.[/whisper]

The fire genasi stands still a moment as his spell is completed. He then nods, and puts two of the four scrolls he had in his hands into a belt pouch at his waist. He then strides over to the gith at the counter. "Excuse me, good sir" he says to the gith as he strides up to the counter. "I was wondedring if you could give me some information on these scrolls that I've recently acquired?" he asks, laying the scrolls down on the counter.
[whisper=admin]OOC: Okay, thanks. I'm gonna see what the gith at the counter has to say about the last two scrolls, I'm putting the other two in a pouch at my waist.[/whisper]

"A Consuming need to drink? That seems like a vast waste of water. The arm of water is something I imagine I would enjoy, however. I will purchase the water arm of course. However, as I said, I think consuming thirst sounds odd. Then again, it is a spell, and worth knowing. Perhaps we could consider 40 for the two? I think that most fair, and under the circumstances of our future arrangements, quite fair"
Vatndir pulled 40 coins out. Shifting them between his hands, he emphasized the difference between a pile of 25 on the one hand, and the much more tempting pile of 40 in the other. "I imagine you'd prefer to take 40 than 25, so shall we call it a deal?" He continued his antics, using silver as and platinum as well. 2 platinum, 5 gold in one hand, then a large mixture of gold and silver in the other, he smiled at the salesman.

"Twenty-five and twenty-five is fifty," the gith says, nonplussed. "I am prepared to take forty-five gold pieces for both; elsewhere, you will pay upwards of one hundred coins for one of these spells. You are already being given two allowances on price... and every last coin belongs to the Society, not myself. Save your haggling for the Bazaar."
He straightens up some in his seat as Rhenai approaches the table. Opening the first scroll case, he glances over its contents for only a moment before closing it again and resting it on the table next to Rhenai. "This is a list of spell keys for Ysgard. When casting a spell that requires a key, the rune appropriate to the spell must be either traced in the air, spoken aloud, or ritually engraved on the material component or focus being used. We have more such information for sale here today, in the Spell Keys tent.
He pops open the second, squinting slightly as he unfurls a stained, oily rag, giving pause as he scrutinizes it. "...Where did you acquire this?" he asks simply.

"I acquired it from... a friend" Rhenai says, flashing a smile that ahows his white, slightly pointed teeth. "A friend who I am sure wishes to keep their identity secret." He says, picking up the first spell case and putting it into a belt pouch. "Now would you care to tell me what these runes mean, or will I have to take my business elsewhere?" The fire genasi says, knowing full well that the threat of losing business will stop unwanted inquiries from the gith.

"If your friend was a spellslinger," the githzerai continues, unperturbed, "then this could be something fashioned with spellweaving. If not, then this is an oily rag."

'Very well sir. The both for 45." Vatndir passed the appropriate coins to the man, taking both scrolls. He shuffles them around on the table while reviewing their contents.

The githzerai sends another runner, and receives all three scroll cases at the same time. Handing the first to Wraith, he says flatly, "I apologize for the waiting. The spell is something of a rarity, so it must have been difficult to find a copy. May you succeed where others have failed." He offers her an old, stylized mahogany scroll tube.
The two that he offers Vatndir are the newer, plain scroll cases in issue today. "Watery Fist and Insatiable Thirst, yours," he says, having pocketed the jink when no one was looking.
"Thank you for your business. Will there be anything else?" He leans back and continues to look over the index with little interest.

"My friends and I tend to keep our chosen professions hidden from each other, knowing too much about each other pust too strong a sense of order on us" Rhenai says, glancing at the water genasi out of the corner of his eye. "Thank you, I will take a look around the spell keys tent and look at the keys, later. But I know for a fact that those are runes. now can you tell me what they mean or not?" he says, making sure his scrolls were secured in his belt pouch, keeping an eye out for pick-pockets. He then focuses his attention at the gith as he asks the nature of the runes.

Vatndir eyed the Fire Gensai in return. "Good day to you. I think that spell keys to Ysgard is an exciting thing. I hail from there if you ever want to speak to a native before traveling there, I imagine it would do you good. " Vatndir eyes the gensai only one more time, before exiting into the main central area of the event. He waits for Wraith to join him, before deciding where to look next.

"Thankyou, cutter. This will be of great use to me, I'm sure. Thankyou for your assistance." Wraith's fingertips trace in a reverent gesture over the intricate engravings, carved with delicate care into the aged wood.
After a moment of thoughtful introspection, she stows the scrollcase away from prying eyes - and nimble fingers - bids a good day to the Gith, and follows Vatndir outside.
"So, where to now? Unless you have other business to attend to today." Wraith asks of the Genasi with a pensive smile.

"I am no expert in Ysgardian magic," the gith replies flatly. "All that I know of it is that it is responds to runes and kennings -- the runes being magical symbols that were supposedly revealed to the chief god of the Norse pantheon, and kennings being poetic sayings that somehow evoke the properties of a spell.
"If you acquired your spell key guide here, there should be instructions on how to properly use them. Now -- are you looking for a spell formula of some sort?" he says, trying to shift focus back to his line of expertise.

No, I was just browsing, thank you" Rhenai says, flashing the gith one last smile as he took back his rag and secured it in a scroll case.

The gith nods and dismissively waves the genasi off. "Next!" he barks, turning his attention back to the line.

Xianna moves through the crowd, with one hand on her change purse. She looks about the tents, noting the colorful signs amidst the onlookers and various drab tents. So many berks here, aw, I hate being around all these berks. But I need to find more spells. She stops at the spell formulas tent, browsing and perusing. I hope they got something good here, I hate wasting my time.
