Well, I posted my selections but either I'm a dumbass and posted them somewhere else or I'm a dumbass and didn't hit reply. Anywho how about these: Magic missile(gotta love it, you hit everytime) Sleep Shield chill touch And before I pick my last one I have one more asinine question. If I pick something like enlarge or protect from evil, does that also give me the reverse spell for those? Also, I have no idea if you are going to have me in a party or start out alone, I might pick a spell that would help a buddy(like jump or message). m

Those look fine. Reversible spells do give you the reverse as well.
As for getting started: what do you think Xianna would like to work toward? Acquiring more spells? Fighting in an arena for money and prestige? Finding a planar expedition to follow along with? Something else?
Any way it goes, she'll be starting out not knowing the other PCs. It's mostly a matter of how she meets them -- you could start a new thread at a bar or shop, for example, and see who joins in; or, I could set up a scene for you and others to meet.

I think Xianna's main motivation would be power, probably from learning spells, but she does have a bit of bloodlust in her. She would also want power gained from knowing the right people, even though her diplomacy skills suck. And loot, she's all about some loot too. It would probably be easier if you somehow slip me into the plot somewhere, these guys seem to already doing their own thing. Just tell me which thread I'm introduced in and I will jump in. Oh yeah, I'll take the protection from evil/good spell, I've never tried that one.m

Another thing I would really like to get a real sense of exactly what she looks like. I know you rolled for bluish hair and forked tongue and that is awesome. But I have been perusing the net for tiefling images and they all seem to have horns,(from tiny to dragonlike) and other distinct features. If I could find a nice image to use as an avatar that would be soooo awesome if not, oh well.m

Oh yeah I forgot: My future in laws are coming in from Michigan for my fiance's birthday this weekend so I probably won't be back online until MOnday morning. Of course I will be totally bored that day because I don't have to work. Jessm

Tieflings generally look human, with the exception of one or more features that make them a little "off". If you'd like to add other freaky features to her appearance, you may do so. Check out the racial description for a height/weight range. As for getting started, maybe something in the Blood Pit? She'd get a connection (a fight promoter), a fight, and she could even place a wager on herself. If she's looking for job opportunities, Tensar's Employment Service is a good starting point. Let me know what you think. Your new PHB will have a price list for gear and weapons in chapter 6. Feel free to put together an equipment list, if you need something to do before getting back online.

Oh yeah, the Blood Pit sounds nice, she would probably go that route for $ before gainful employment. It would be to her advantage to look passable as human so I guess no more freakiness to her appearance. I'd like her to be a little tall, 5'10" or so with a nice muscular build about 170 lbs. I'll get back to you on the equipment. Let's see, she's got about 556 gp left? I suppose clothing, food, survival gear would be the first priorities. I'm carrying 42 in weight right now, so how much more can she carry realistically? m

She can carry up to 66 lbs. without encumbrance penalties. 67-133 lbs. is a medium load, which is where she'd start suffering penalties.

well, i guess I better clothe this girl first. Breeches:2gp Tunic:8sp Riding Boots:3gp Cloak(cloth):8sp Gloves:1gp Belt:3sp Small belt pouch:7sp 1/2 lb. Knife sheath(for my dagger):3cp Scabbard(for my rapier):4gp Standard rations(2 wks):6gp Backpack:2gp 2lb. Flint&steel:5sp Small metal mirror:10gp Flask of greek fire:10 gp (only cuz i love to blow things up) Parchment 10 sheets:10gp Rope, 50',silk:10gp 8 lbs. Small tent:5gp 10 lbs Wineskin:8sp 1 lb. Writing ink:8gp whetstone:2cp 1lb. By my calculations that's 79gp, 39sp, 5cp,... or we can can call it 83gp. And that's an additional 22.5 lbs. of weight, which makes her load 64.5(close). Now, what about lodging? I'm sure she's not gonna tote all this stuff around all the time. But I'm sure only a fool would store their gear at an inn. Also, I was eyeing a riding horse, cheap but where to stable it? Awww yes, you are gonna get sooo tired of my asinine questions. ;Dm

Lodging is usually a matter of staying in faction-run housing, or somewhere you're friendly with the innkeeper -- private rooms are obviously preferable. Housing prices and taxes are exorbitant, even in the slums of the Hive Ward (where most residents are squatters, who pay instead for protection from gangs). Animals are generally not considered a good idea in Sigil. Space is at a premium, so stabling expenses are extremely high. Conditions are also polluted, cramped, and disease-ridden, and any but the toughest horses usually succumb to a wheezing cough in their first two weeks in the Cage. Questions are what I usually hope for in a reply. They inspire me to reply promptly.

Well I guess she would find herself at the shattered temple. But there is no one hanging out there, is there? Are there any other Athar characters? If not, I guess she would migrate to the Great Foundry.Believers of the source are an allied faction, right? And where is this Blood Pit?
The big in-law plans sorta fell through, so I should be around all day.

It's no problem to involve yourself in multiple threads, so long as they're not happening at the same time (which is why all threads are named for the date and time at which they're happening). Believers of the Source are allies, but the Foundry isn't really a place to hang out, so much -- just a giant metalworks. Some of the other faction HQs (the Great Gymnasium, the Hall of Speakers, the Civic Festhall) are actually public places of service, so you could feasibly make an appearance at one of them. The Blood Pit is in one of the seediest neighborhoods in the Hive Ward, in an abandoned warehouse. I'm going to be starting a new thread there (hopefully today!) to allow for some more violence.

Awesome! Well I could definately make my "debut" by enetering a fight and go from there. I have a question about some slang, what's a basher and a cutter? I'm sure it's self explanatory, I just noticed that some characters are refered as one or the other in dialogue.m

"Basher" is a neutral reference to a person. "Cutter" carries positive connotations. A "sod" is an unfortunate person, a "berk" is a fool, a "graybeard" is a well-educated person, and a "blood" is one of the best at what he does. If you come across a word you don't know, the Planar Cant Dictionary should be of assistance. There's also bonus XP for using planar cant in conversation or descriptions.

One quick thing: in which of the following does Xianna keep her spell notes?
A spellbook: 300 pages, 3 lbs., unprotected (just a big book)
A traveling spellbook: 200 pages, 2 lbs., some protection (think of the old world Bibles with the wooden box for a cover)
Scrolls (2): 100 pages total, 1 lb., complete protection (inside sealed case)

Well, since I got her sitting at about 64.5 lbs, I better go with the scrolls in a case. That's why I picked up the parchment and ink, but if I don't need them then we can drop them. Just less stuff for her to tote around.m

I just checked out my character sheet. Well, I guess she's carrying more than I thought, I knew I shouldn't have picked equipment while drinking!! My math has always been horrible. While we're at it, let's put in that her hair is azure blue w/ bright yellow eyes (like most black cats, I can't think of the hue) that flash red when she's pissed or blood thirsty. If not, that's cool, I just wanted to think about elaborations so I can put her into the character description thread.

Works for me.
Scrolls are generally the best choice if you plan to do lots of traveling and might end up in a hostile environment. It's probably also not a bad idea to keep your ink and paper (never know when you might have to forge something!).

Since she is a ranger/ mage 3, should I adjust my spells to level 3 spells? according to my PHb she can cast 2 1st level and 1 2nd a day. Maybe these 5?: Magic missile Sleep Shield chill touch Melf's acid arrow
The spells I picked earlier weren't posted onmy character sheet so I was hoping to slip by w/ the change. Jess
