"Its vital that it be healed before we depart then. I imagine our trip will be much harder if I can't swim for us."

nods grimly, as Piers begins to proudly boast about the jink that those bubbers carried, then he looks at the water, and then to his own wounded form.
"Ungh." He sits on the boat and nurses his wounds, having no real medical training or knowledge to understand how badly, or not-badly he's hurt.

Piers makes note of Vatndir's comment and John's pained utterance. "Here, you work on this," he says to Robert, dropping the pouch he'd been inspecting and showing a faint smile at the jingling noise. "I'm not going far."
The older brother treads carefully while switching boats, removing bandages, vials, and poultices one at a time from his belt pouch. "We do have a small stockpile of emergency supplies," he starts to the genasi, "but I'd prefer not to use them if we can avoid it." He takes some time to assess everyone's wounds, cleaning them and bandaging them as best he can for the time being.

"Thank you my kind styrktarmadr. I'm glad I thought you to be multi-talented. A healer is always most welcome." Vatndir smiled at Piers, showing true respect for the skill in his eyes.

Piers smiles and adds a comment to Vatndir in the temple language of the Norse.[whisper=feq, stix]"It's always best for a man to know more than he lets on."[/whisper]
"Hopefully, the boat ride will be a leisurely one," he continues, beginning to clean his own substantial wounds and bandage himself. "Nuuko, your bruising is deep and the cuts are extensive, so don't force yourself to do anything for a week or two, to let everything heal." He winces as he pulls a bandage tight around his leg, letting out an involuntary snort. "You should take a few days' bedrest -- and you as well," he says with a glance to Vatndir. "And, John... you'll be fine. Just keep the cuts clean."
"All counted up," Robert says from the other boat. "Looks like they must've torn up some wealthy travelers... better them than us, the poor sods. I assume Piers will want some time to check over the jewellery and other items," he says, looking expectantly to his nodding brother, "so we'll give out everyone's share of the jink for now, and come back to the rest later."
Contrary to his brother's cautious steps, Robert leaps nimbly out of the boat onto the dock, holding four purses, and hands one each to John, Vatndir, Nuuko, and Nilou. "Forty each of platinum, gold, silver, and copper. We'll give some to Thrassos to aid in repairing any damage the bastards caused, a reward to our boatmen for orders well-followed, and the rest will be kept on hand in case we need to bribe anyone along the line. Any discontents?"

John shakes his head, and says, "No, thank you sirs, grateful as always."
His normally over-harsh voice actually sounds it too. Fair division of treasure is something that John prizes, and any master who does so is a good master by him.
He takes the advice about keeping the cuts clean to heart. He's seen enough cases of people with infected cuts, scabs, and wounds quickly becoming gangrenous in the lower regions of the cage to take the advice of someone who knows what their doing with medicine. And John likes his limbs, lumpy with muscle and fat as they are.
He sets the cash in his pack, along with the rest of his stake from his earlier or job, and fancies himself something of a wealthy man for a moment. Truthfully, though, he doesn't know what to do with the money at the moment. His mind is instead fixed on other thoughts. Advancement in the ranks of his faction. After this little adventure, and what remains of it, perhaps he'll have sufficient power, respect and strength to challenge one of his erstwhile betters for a higher posting. Tax-administrator instead of tax-taker.

Vatndir's respect grows, hearing his "native" tongue. He responds in kind. "I will do my best to imagine such a trip for you."
"I imagine you've treated us fairly" Vatndir replies, the pouches disappearing into his robes, his hands quickly shifting his money into different places. [whisper]slight of hand [dice=20+][/whisper]
"Bed rest is tricky for me, obviously, as I generally rest in the water. But I'll do my best."

Nilou takes the little jingling bag and regards it.
If it weren't for me, these spoils wouldn't have come to us. But if it weren't for me, no one would have gotten hurt. No need for a rescue. --I was rescuing John, that's why all this happened. I was rescuing John. Doesn't say much for good intentions.
...But they would have snapped anyway. If not after me, then after someone else.
There was something in her gut that felt all wrong about others getting hurt, and not her, when she'd been the one to bring the Bacchae crashing down around them.
And no one's pointing blame.
"I'm sorry, for what it's worth. And thank you."
But even her deep sullenness can't quite ruin her fine, exotic looks.

Looks at Nilou with confusion, during her apology. He blinks a few times, then shrugs. Unsure how to be gracious about it except by saying nothing and pretending nothing had happened. Because, in his mind at least, nothing did. She saved him, he came back with the rest to help her, there's no question of debts owed between them in his mind.
Finally he just lies back on his boat, resting strained muscles and torn flesh, and says, "Do you know songs of the sea, Nilou?"

Vatndir scrunched his eyes, confused. His mind raced, and settled on someting. "I think its good you appologize. Clearly you have let yourself slide, if you can not run at top speed and sing at the same time. It was sad to have no soundtrack to the short battle." Despite the strangeness of his words, his eyes were completely serious.
"I imagine that is waht you are appologizing for, as I can think of nothing else you have done to require one."

Nilou smiles at both of them--a surprising thing, since smiling at John isn't one of her habits.
"You ask if I know songs of the sea," she laughs gently, then begins to sing.
I'm the man before the mast That ploughs the raging sea And on this simple subject Will you please enlighten me Common sailors we are called Come tell me the reason why And on this simple subject I'll reply
Don't you call us common sailors anymore Don't you call us common sailors anymore Good things to you we bring Don't you call us common men We're as good as anybody that's on shore
The young girls of this country Their growing days we bless We brings them silks and satins Out of which they makes a dress To gain the heart of some young man As fancy dresses do Don't never despise the sailor boys That sails the ocean blue
The young gents of this country They're sitting at their ease Not thinking on the stormy nights That we spent on the seas We brings the leaves to make cigars To decorate their face They wouldn't call us common If they were sometimes in our place
When speaking of a man ashore We never hear you say He's a common this or common that Be his calling what it may Be he a travelling tinker, Or a scavanger, or a sweep Then why call us common sailors Who battle with the deep
As the song fades into the salty air, she lets her ears linger on the dying notes, eyes closed, smiling faintly.

Nuuko languishs the weighty pouch of coins, he turns it over several times in his hands before securing it in a larger pouch on his belt. He hesitates only slightly climbing on board the boat, the most water and the most coin I've ever heard of? This can't be a real place...

John lies back as Nilou sings, looking more relaxed and happy than usual, his smile a much more subtle slash across his face than the normal, wide, predatory grin he wears when shaking down some poor berk, or fighting. His muscles relax, and he takes in the moment, the stinging of his wounds in the salt air, the sound of the sea providing a counterpoint to her voice. He looks almost peaceful, surrounded by his shed war-gear, wearing only his vest, and pants. Even his boots are stowed aside him, and he's quite wrapped in bandages tinged with pink and red.

As usual, Vatndir pays Rapt attention to Nilous song, enjoyng the drifting boats, as masterful song and beauiful water meld into one in his mind.
