In terms of his not being in the fight, he might have slept in -- or, if he's an early riser, he might have already been awake and off wandering, stretching his legs before he'll be cooped up on a boat for the next several weeks. That's the only absence that needs any explaining.

Normally he is an early riser, and there's more likelihood of him being less drunk when he's off plane-hopping. However, Bachae wine could have a kick to it.
