The orc flinches as he is touched, reflexively clenching a fist, but relaxes as he spies the comparatively much smaller human woman. His beady eyes stay focused on her as she speaks her piece. " The ring is no place for a woman," he says scornfully. " Go home and make young." He lumbers away, turning his attention back to his conversation with John. Quicksilver watches Ghour the Orc vanish into the crowd, with a crooked smile playing upon her lips. The ring was no place for a woman, eh? That sounded like a challenge to her, and one she was willing to take up. " Don't listen to that berk," comes a hoarse whisper from behind Quicksilver. She turns to find herself face-to-face with a poised, midnight-blue-clad androgynous githzerai. " Ghour is too set in the ways of his people to recognize any potential in a woman." I've ended githyanki life on the tip of my chiv, though. That's all the proof of potential I need. What are you risking tonight, basher? A few bruises, a few cuts, or your life?" " I'm not surprised. Most still think that all a gal is good for is breedin'. I welcome the chance ta prove meself, cutter. The name's Quicksilver, or jest Silver. " She says, extending her gauntleted hand in greeting to the Githzerai. " A few nicks are fine tonight, but not me life. Not yet. Not until I'm known well enough for me name ta be remembered with some admiration and praise." Again she flashes a dazzling lopsided grin. " An' I'm more than ready ta fight now, if ye'll sponser me." " I have one question, though: is spellslingin' allowed in the ring? I have a few minor tricks up my sleave I sometimes like ta use ta give me a little extra edge."

"If you don't get caught, you can sling all the spells you want in a free-for-all match. These bashers are all peery of the stuff, though -- a few years back, some berk penned some of the audience into the dead-book trying to save his own life with a lightning bolt. The pigeons brought him down," she says, pointing up to the rafters, where two shadowy figures sit with readied crossbows.
"If it's first blood you want, do your spellslinging beforehand. There are even a few cutters lurking in the crowd, selling spells to give an advantage. It's expensive, but a good way to keep from dying in a pinch.
"Shall I schedule your match now, or do you need some more time?"

John has his drinks, and eventually slouches off to get himself stitched up by the nearest available sawbones.

Shall I schedule your match now, or do you need some more time?" Silver nods, heeding the Githzerai's warning. She imagined those cagey bloods would do a brisk business selling their magic - phoney or otherwise - to the brawlers with the jink to spare. Foolish? Probably, because only another spellslinger would know exactly what he was buying. "I'll pass, an' stick wit' me own tricks fer now, cutter." She says, feeling confident enough in her own ability. She wasn't stupid enough to set herself up for a peel. "I'll fight until knocked down, an' I'm more'n ready now." She flexes her fingers, cracking her knuckles, and checks to make sure that her gauntlets are secured properly. OOC: Stix, how would the Hexblade's curse work in a First Blood contest? Quicksilver would be using it to give herself an advantage over her opponent/s.

(The Hexblade Curse has a lengthy duration, and only requires giving your opponent "the evil eye". You could do it while being announced, and no one would be the wiser.)
"I'll make sure the high-ups know." The gith makes her way deeper into the crowd, vanishing among the throng of onlookers.
After some time and a few uproarious fist-fights, the promoter appears by Quicksilver's side without warning, beginning to escort her to the ring. "You're up next, basher. May your wit be sharp as your chiv."

(The Hexblade Curse has a lengthy duration, and only requires giving your opponent "the evil eye". You could do it while being announced, and no one would be the wiser.) " I'll make sure the high-ups know." The gith makes her way deeper into the crowd, vanishing among the throng of onlookers. After some time and a few uproarious fist-fights, the promoter appears by Quicksilver's side without warning, beginning to escort her to the ring. " You're up next, basher. May your wit be sharp as your chiv." (I'll do that, then. So, what does Hexblade's Curse do exactly?) Quicksilver cracks her knuckles, rolls her shoulders, shakes her hands, flexes her muscles, and otherwise limbers up for her first fight. She waits anxiously, muttering to herself, smacking one balled fist into the open palm of her other hand, and scans the crowd; hoping to catch a glimpse of her gith sponsor. But with the fist fights spreading, and the heated frenzy rising in the atmosphere, it was difficult to pick her out from the mass of rowdy drunks and pit fighters. "C'mon, cutter. I wanna get in tha ring, before I start punching someone." She mutters to herself, stamping her feet restlessly, and peers into the crowd again. It was tough to stay focused with the smell of blood, sweat and excitement heavy on the air, but the Hexblade reins her wandering mind in enough to keep a wary eye on the crowd, and her wits about her... until a fist fight erupts nearby, and one berk shoves another drunk into her. The hapless sod is near unconscious, swooning on his feet, reeking of cheap bub, and bleeding profusely from the nose, and several cuts to his face. "Oiy! Why don'tcha watch where ye're goin, berk!" Quicksilver snaps, seizing the opportunity for an early fight, and picks up the nearest empty bottle she can find. She brings it down upon the drunken sod, smashing it across the back of his head, and sends the berk sprawling into a table surrounded by drunks. She wanders away after that, searching for another brawl to throw herself into, or better yet, one she can start. The gith appears by her side quite suddenly, and so silently the Hexblade didn't notice her appearance, and starts escorting her to the ring. She follows eagerly. "I'm more'n ready fer blood, cutter." Silver grins, having already tasted first blood for the evening; even if it was smashing a beer bottle over the back of a bubber's head.

After the ring is cleared, Quicksilver takes her place in it, the githzerai at her back, standing silently. Opposite her is a lithe young man: a plain-faced human in fraying padded armor, wielding what appears to be a pair of kitchen knives.
The pomp and circumstance of the free-for-all match is absent. A house official barks some unintelligible words, and Quicksilver's opponent settles into a defensive stance....

Silver faces off her opponent, and grins at him. Did he look nervous? Was that an anxious sweat dripping from his brow? She looked him over, narrowing her eyes, and set her feet in a confident, if threatening stance. Her eyes sought his, regarding him with maliciousness and dire intent, and bored into his soul. She uncoiled her whip with a deft flick of her wrist, setting the leather tail into motion with a loud echoing snap! Did he just flinch? Good. She would've if she were in his shoes... But I'm not, am I? I'm right here... Watching her opponent, anticipating every move, she waits for the announcer's call, and springs into motion... Initiative [dice=20] +3 OOC: Silver is using Hexblade's Curse on her opponent before the combat even starts. [rand=883114481631171645957108381776217698469994509295722877127581188]

[sweet. I'm assuming, as she wields two weapons, that she gets two attacks per round, right? ] Quicksilver lunges forward with lightning speed, screaming maniacly at her opponent, and lashes out with whip and rapier... action: Improved Disarm [dice=20] [+4 to opposed attack roll, but I'm not sure what other bonuses apply here. ]

(She doesn't have two-weapon fighting, so attacking with both weapons would mean a -6 penalty to her primary attack and a -10 penalty with her off-hand. In the interest of keeping things going, I'm just going to assume that she's disarming with only the rapier, which would be a successful hit on one of his knives.)
Roll to keep from being disarmed [dice=20-5]
(Roll an attack with a +4; if you beat his result, you knock it out of his hand.)[rand=237678441876435720511871724045053234360583130177186595773299413502]

[No worries. If she succeeds with the disarm, she's going to drop her weapons, and resort to punching him senseless. ] attack to disarm [dice=20+5] [do I include my weapon finesse bonus here, too?]
