Having just exited the Spell Keys tent, his acquisition secured on his person, the horse-legged tiefling walks casually in the direction of another tent. This one bears a well-made sign reading "Rare Components Bought and Sold." Pausing to soak in the rush of commerce generated by these greybeards of all things arcane, Gl'Fnak opens a small belt pouch and produces a vibrant red and orange hued feather. Twirling its shaft idly between two fingers, he patiently attempts to attract the notice of an attendant. While waiting the Baatorian born half-breed inquisitively arches his metal-ensconced "eyebrow" at the various items assembled under this tent.

"I beg your pardon, sir," says a lilting tenor voice from behind Gl'Fnak. It belongs to a painfully thin human in strange dress -- a scarlet knee-length tunic, white braies decorated in hypnotically colorful and swirling githyanki designs, crossed sashes of lavender and green, and a headdress of beads with dangling golden tassels. He stands perhaps an inch taller than the tiefling, shorn-headed and clean-shaven, a faint red-brown stain of the Free League insignia on his left cheek.
"Is that what I think it is?" he inquires, pointing to the feather. "Oh, my!" he exclaims as he takes in the Cipher's various facial piercings. "Where did you get these? I must know!" he continues delightedly, tapping gently at the metal on Gl'Fnak's eyebrow as though cautiously plucking the strings of an unfamiliar instrument.

"These old things?" the tiefling begins with a grin and deliberate arching of his brow. A quick glance at the skinny human preceeds his answer, "I found the ore that these're made of on one of many rides to the Silver Void." Nodding toward the boy's garish pants, "you ever banged around there yourself? Or just like it's inhabitants style?"
As the Cipher brushes the tentacles of his once-sentient headdress off of his left shoulder, he continues, "I'll say this for them, they aren't exactly hospitable but their fashion is...unique..." Shifting his gaze back to the colorful feather lightly pinched between thumb and forefinger, Gl'Fnak replies, "as for your first question that depends...what do you think this is?"
Subconsciously shaking his head, the rogue retains his own council. Heh, typical. Unwilling to commit to knowing or not knowing something...he instead wastes his time thinking.

The onlooker seems too distracted by Gl'Fnak's unique body jewelry to answer his questions at first. Only when the Cipher inquires about the feather does he speak up.
"I would call it a phoenix feather," he starts hesitantly, returning his attention to the object that first grabbed it. "The orange and red and gold like flames, these thin streaks of purple," he says, leaning in close to it, pointing in fascination as he observes. "Amazing. Wonderful. Unlike anything I've ever seen."

The coal-eyed tiefling nods bemusedly, "quite astute. But not only is it the feather of one of the self-resurrecting birds, this is one that was left behind from the immolation we witnessed." Allowing a moment for that to sink in to the Indep's mind, Gl'Fnak continues, "while I haven't tried any spellslinging with them, they should prove useful in some spell. Be it one banging around in some greybeard's brainbox or one yet to be made."

When the Cipher mentions witnessing a phoenix's death and rebirth, the Indep's eyebrows rise in a look of amazement. "Quite a sight, and a rare privilege! Have you put it in the sensoriums? I'd like to experience it myself, if possible."
A human woman in a simple gray robe approaches the duo, canting her head to one side as if waiting for an appropriate time to interject.

"I haven't contributed it personally yet...but one of the cutters I was banging around with that ride mighta...two of 'em were Sensates. If not, you can get word to me at the Great Gymnasium...if I'm around I may have the time to donate a memory or two." The Cipher inquisitively arches the row of little rings over his eye as the human woman approaches.

The Indep likewise turns his attention to the plain woman.
"Phoenix feathers," she remarks in a flat, soft voice, "are popularly used as fletchings for some arrows of slaying. While no common spell uses them as a component, there are numerous other item formulae in which they are sometimes included. Further information is proprietary to the Society, but can be disclosed for a fee to be discussed with a senior member. If you are interested in selling your finds, the Society will pay a sum of twenty gold pieces per feather."
"I'll offer you twenty-five," the strangely-dressed man quickly interjects.

Gl'Fnak smiles a toothy grin at the woman, "item creation...that idea hadn't arised. Any of these senior members around? Perhaps they'd twig to bartering some feathers for the information." He turns his head back to the young man working the stall and says with a wink, "don't worry though, I'll save a few for you."

"Five feathers will suffice. What do you wish to know?"
The Indep's eyes widen. "Five? How many have you?" he asks with an incredulous smile.

"Five...that should be worth a list of what item creations use the feather and a few formulae of one's I twig to. As for how many, I got about a dozen or so total...so five for info, let's say three to sell and the rest for me to keep ahold of." The ashen-skinned Baatorian arches his oddly adorned eyebrow at the two humans.

"Agreed," say both.
"You understand that the senior members are entirely occupied on this day. I will bring to them your payment and request; you may return two days hence for a written report."
The Indep begins counting coins.

Gl'Fnak nods decidedly and draws eight phoenix feathers of varying sizes and hues from a large pouch on his belt. Holding three in one hand and five in the other, he addresses the woman, "three now and these other two I'll bring when I return for the promised info." The Cipher returns two of the feathers to his belt pouch and offers three each to the garishly dressed boy and the woman.

The woman fixes a distant, pensive gaze on Gl'Fnak, considering his offer before nodding. "I do not believe anyone will find that objectionable." She accepts the feathers and turns to be on her way.
The Indep holds out first a stack of ten platinum coins, then ten gold coins. "Fifty and ten is sixty," he says idly, beaming and eyeing the feathers.

Nodding once at the woman, Gl'Fnak turns toward the young Indep with a mirthless, toothy grin. "Either you take me for a berk or you're the worst Knight of the Post the Cage has seen."

"Hmm?" the Indep inquires with genuine confusion. After a moment, it comes to him. "Oh! Oh, my -- I had promised you twenty-five apiece, hadn't I? Forgive me." Plucking three more platinum coins from his belt pouch, he offers them with the rest.

The ash-skinned Baatorian exchanges the feathers for the coins, winks at the kid and walks off stashing the money in a belt pouch.
