How does that faction feel about property and personal possessions? I'm thinking along the lines of a Dustman Indiana Jones. A Planewalker who travels to ruins, tombs, wrecks, anywhere death has been, and comes back with anything of value that he can carry, whether that value be in what knowledge the Dustmen scholars can glean, or just what something will sell for. So I guess more of a Dustman Jewish Indiana Jones. Solid NE, maybe even CE if I want to play him as a total bastard. Also someone who could possibly slot into the Thrassos plotline if you want a monkey wrench there.
By the way, what system are you using these days? Either way I'll probably need a walkthrough before I have a workable character sheet. global

Well, the Dustmen believe you should get rid of your feelings for everything that's a part of this world... but it's understood that this world is a very elaborate deception, and so that's extremely difficult. As long as he's not aiming high for faction advancement and still keeps the emotional detachment for which they're famous, the Dead shouldn't have any problem keeping him around.
The system is D&D 3.5, with a couple tweaks. If you check out the site guide, it'll have all the basics.

Okay, starting to poke around the rules and see what I can come up with... Races that make the most sense: human, tiefling, maybe githzerai, but only if you really want a gith for plot fun... so far I think I'm leaning toward human. Classes: Mostly rogue for sure, maybe with some sorceror for extra tricks. Thought about ranger as a secondary class instead but I think wizard or sorceror would work better. Sheet post should be forthcoming but certainly won't be complete right away.

Humans are always good to have. Don't forget, you're picking two classes and forging them into one with the best features of both, so you could go Rogue-Sorcerer or Rogue-Mage right away, if you feel like it.

Oh... well then... I may have to change my ability scores a bit. Sorcerers are the ones that don't need to carry a spellbook or memorize things, they just get fewer spells for their troubles, right?

Sorcerers have smaller repertoires and acquire new spell levels slower than mages (delayed by one level), but they have roughly 50% more memorization slots, don't have to rely on a spellbook or written notes of any kind, and don't have to spend time preparing their spells before they sleep. Their spellcasting is based on Charisma instead of Intelligence.

Hmm... for a character who puts himself in stressful conditions regularly, sorcerer seems to make more sense. Your forum writeups say TBA for sorcerer, wanna fill that one up for me? (I mainly wanna see class skills and other boni).
