I have a couple analogies to explain how leveling works. Bear with me. I'm going to go one level at a time so you can get a better picture of how he's developing. In 2e, you decided what class(es) you wanted to be at 1st level. Every time you gained a level, you would take another step up the "ladder", becoming more and more powerful in the class(es) you chose for yourself. In this edition, levels are instead more like building blocks. Every time you gain a level, you're free to choose anything you want to, adding it on to all your previous talents. Right now, Drej is a Barbarian-Rogue 1. Here are some options for moving him up a level. I'm going to give you a bonus 800 GP so you won't have to worry about training costs for a good long while (unless you spend it all elsewhere!). - Barbarian-Rogue 2. The simplest option: continuing to develop Drej's abilities in his current class. Costs 50 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Fighter 1. Training in soldierly arts would allow Drej to wear heavier armor, and he'd learn the use of some new weapons and gain a bonus feat. Costs 100 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Ranger 1. For some extra wilderness and animal-related skills. Costs 100 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Gladiator 1. A little pit-fighting practice would give Drej some extra capabilities with a weapon in his hands. Costs 100 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Pugilist 1. For some bonus feats and unarmed combat ability. Costs 100 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Sorcerer 1. To add on some spellcasting ability. Costs 100 GP.
- Barbarian-Rogue 1, Human Paragon 1. Capitalizing on the versatility of the human race to gain access to new skills. Costs 0 GP.

I've updated Drej's sheet to Barbarian-Rogue 2 so far, because I want to propose something to you first. I'd like to recommend the Survivor Prestige Class as something to consider working toward. The Damage Reduction it provides is the number of points subtracted directly from all physical damage. With a few levels of it, he could be tough enough to survive fighting fiends unarmored. If the prospect interests you, I'd recommend taking the next level in Pugilist or Sorcerer so you can qualify for Survivor at 4th level.

I spent 6 of Drej's skill points on Survival, so he's fully qualified to take the prestige class at 4th level. You've got 6 skill points left to spend on any skills you like. There's also a small stack of feats for you to select. After your first fight, you'll probably have a better idea of things you want to improve, but it can't hurt to look them over if you get the chance.
