Hey Stix,

I had forgotten all about this thread for a while, and rediscovered it today. Did you ever get around to completing the Eladrin bloodline?

By the way, I recall seeing an option about flaws not too long ago, but none of them ever made it onto the character options page that I know of. When those get posted, can I consider giving one or two to Hadrian? I know in theory its only supposed to be done at character creation.

Have yet to finish the Eladrin bloodline, but if you'd like to choose it I'll come up with it quickly. I'm beginning to consider keeping bloodline abilities a secret and revealing them to the players as they manifest them, to encourage more roleplaying than rollplaying.

Thanks for getting back to me Stix. I haven't made a final decision one way or the other yet, at some point this weekend I want to read through the descriptions of Asuras and Eladrin more carefully to decide if either would be a good roleplaying addition to Hadrian's backstory, especially with the trip to Ysgard now immenent.

Considering you brought up the rollplaying vs roleplaying aspect, I guess I should admit that the quandry I'm trying to weigh isn't one of which line is better than the others, its more a question of bloodlines being worth the cost at all. One to three levels can make a huge difference, especially to a caster, and amongst other reasons my hit points aren't very strong to begin with so every new die roll helps. That being said, I find the so called "fluff aspects" really appealing, and it would serve to flesh out a portion of Hadrian's character that I haven't spent much time delving into yet.

In terms of the basics, all bloodlines will have an identical structure to those above:

Conceptually, Eladrin are somewhat like elf-celestials -- enigmatic beings who hide their presences from humanity and work with subtlety. Asuras are the "avenging angels" of the Upper Planes, put to task when a deity orders a great evil destroyed. Aasimon serve a multitude of purposes, and are most commonly sent to other planes to represent a deity's cause.

Regarding the difference made by three levels, don't worry about it. I scale things to a difficulty I feel appropriate to the task, location, and PCs involved (I fly fast and loose with encounters; I see things like CR as ridiculous micromanagement, so I don't use them). Also, some threats are meant to be fled rather than fought, regardless of level.

In a nutshell, if you find it conceptually appropriate, go for it, whatever it may be.

After reading through the descriptions I could find of the various lines I had been considering, and in keeping with the summary you've provided, I think that Asuras is the most appropriate bloodline for Hadrian.

If I wanted to take a major bloodline, seeing as that I'm already level 6, how would you like me to apply the template?

For a major bloodline, Hadrian's levels 7 and 8 would apply directly to it, and a third would have to be spent on it by CL 12.
