"This very existence is decaying, rotting and crumbling around us. Even within my ordered and seemingly unchanging home of Mechanus, it is in evidence. Maintenance is required to prevent breakdowns, masses of my kind work endlessly in a futile attempt to keep everything together. This is wrong... mindless effort driven by fear. This is not the way things should be. Do not fight the order, the very plan, of the multiverse. Aid it. Everything must end, and so working toward such is the only logical path. And maybe, when finally the last rock erodes and the last sea turns to dust, we shall be there to see our work finally completed."
Unit 19x237b94, known by most as "Deconstructor," is a Rogue Modron whom, exactly 1.352 years ago, realized the pointlessness of the work the Modrons were doing. Fleeing to Sigil, he sought to learn from the factions, looking for an answer to a very difficult puzzle: why was all this work required? Why, after everything that had been done to build and maintain, were things still breaking? None of the answers he received made any sense... until the Doomguard. Taking him in, they gave him the only logical answer: entropy was a part, indeed the main part, of the multiverse. Fire burned until it's fuel was depleted and then was extinguished, mortal beings aged and eventually died, even whole worlds were slowly being eaten away by the Primes that lived on them like parasites. And the reason everyone was working so hard to survive, to build, to repair: fear. Even the Modrons, living on a plane shaped by belief in order, were working because of the fear of those believers.
This answer brought with it a revelation, or as close to such as a Modron could get. Here he stood, one of many designed to maintain forever, and to maintain was to fight a futile battle. So instead, he decided to work to erode, to destroy, to help the very deconstruction of existence. More than that, he could take the long-term view of the Doomguard further, laying plans that might not come to fruition for centuries. And beneath it all a single goal... not just the end, but to see the end himself, with his own eyes to view all his work finally be completed, an experience no Modron drone would ever have, since they fought a losing war against entropy itself.
Just an idea I had, maybe I could make him later or you could even make him as an NPC. Was going to go for the full-blown battle droid style, taking some of the better combat CP bonuses and making him either a straight Fighter or a Fighter/ Mage. It fills the Rogue Modron and the Doomguard spots quite well I'd say. Probably Lawful Evil for alignment, since he really is heartless and working toward what most would consider an evil goal, though Lawful Neutral would work as well.
So what'cha think? I'll probably do a few more of these in my idle time by the way, just taking down my ideas so you can yay, nay, or correct them as you see fit. Also, never be afraid to just say, "I'm taking this guy" as I know I won't be able to play all of the things that pop into my head anyway =P If they get used at all that's fine by me, if not oh well. Mainly just trying to get some of these out of my head so there's more room in there.
