"See, the way it works berk, is that everyone needs sumthin'. There're times they can git it easy, and times it's a bit tricky. There're times they can git it legal, and times they need a less... uptight... broker. I prefer the latter. I find it for 'em. I git it for 'em. Then, I charge 'em out their soddin' hides for it. And dun look at me like I'm cheatin' 'em! Ya want sumthin' that's rare or, *ahem*, frowned upon, ya gotta expect t' pay a'bit more..."
Nobody's quite sure about Malefice's past or origins. It's fairly certain he's a tiefling, but beyond that there's at least a dozen whispered stories, most spread by Malefice himself to add to the confusion. All that's known is that he's good at what he does, which is getting people what they want. Sometimes he does the legwork himself, other times he cons - err, convinces - adventurers to obtain the item for him, then turns around and sells it to his client for twice what he offered as a prize. He never keeps anything in stock nor does he set prices upfront. Instead, he works on orders only, and negotiates the price afterward depending the on difficulties he went through and the resources he expended.
While many other Takers scoff Malefice's practice of using people and going through less-than-legal channels, he nevertheless fits in among them very well. Rather than relying on power - be it physical, political, magical, or otherwise - he relies on his wit, knowledge, and reputation to get things done, scheming and manipulating to make his way.
Not as deep as the last one, but this one kinda came together a while back while I was running through character ideas for a tabletop game, and when I saw that you were looking for Merchants he popped into my head.
One thing is, I dunno if Sigil really has much need for a smuggler. I mean, what exactly is illegal in a city where you can get damned near anything? Still, hard-to-obtain goods are still a decent market, and I'm sure there are some groups who would frown on, say, a Factotum buying a Sirene from some Prime world for less-than-noble reasons, but they can only frown if they know about it.
Feel free to use this one, I almost ran him in said tabletop game, but I just never really felt it, ya know? Maybe run this by a gamer who needs a kickstart or something. Or just leave it here, whatever works.
