The portal deposits the group between two bent yew trees in a large forest. It is dusk on Elysium, but distant pale lights hanging in the sky provide a beacon of civilization. A light breeze sets the leaves rustling; the air itself here is sweet, like a breath of joy.
Yet, from somewhere between here and the distant settlement, someone is breathing in pained, ragged gasps....

As Nuuko emerges from the portal, he sidesteps to allow room for the others. His muscles reflexively tense as he looks around for anyone laying in ambush. Hearing the gasping breaths, the lanky elf begins moving cautiously toward it, in case it's a trap.

Xianna follows Nuuko through the portal, her rapier not drawn, but her hand on the hilt. The Tiefling didn't expect it, but the sweet smells and whole "niceness" of Elysium slightly offended her senses. "Bleh," is all she says as she walks forward. Hearing the the gasps and seeing Nuuko already on the search, Xianna takes up an opposite position to start a grid pattern and look for the poor damned soul.

Wilric crouches next to Pascals body, as he bleeds heavily the gash in his belly seems to great to mend.
Don't die yet Pascal! I Need you! how else will we be able to get the coins without you! I don't know what he looks like!" Wilric Yells at Pascal who makes no identifiable response "Oh and before I forget who did this to you? Was it the John guy? or that freaky demon? come on man tell me before you die!" Wilric sighed "if ya die don't worry ill send your gear back to the fated.
Wilric looks around still crouching for any sign of who did this.
OOC: Hi I'm new nice to meet you all

As Xianna moves off in a similar direction but spaced apart from him, the seven and a half foot tall elf effortlessly fades into the late evening shadows, not a cracking branch or rustling leaf to betray his movements. After a few minutes of stealthy movement, aided by Wilric's talking, he catches sight of the black-haired human crouching over the bleeding body. Unsure of exactly what happened and whether there's still danger afoot, Nuuko continues circling past the two men looking for tracks and keeping alert for anything else lurking nearby.

Wilric Stands and holds his staff ready, Facing the shadows, from the direction of the portal, eyes slowly looking around for any movement.
"Who's there? leave the shadows and greet me with your face and name! I am Wilric Silverstream! now who be you?!"

After a protracted moment of silence, a towering humanoid shape slips into the clearing opposite the direction Wilric was looking. A long stride brings him into the moonlit area, revealing an exceedingly dark-skinned, light-haired, lanky man standing over seven and a half feet tall. A long sword is held in each hand, one of normal-looking metal and the other of some strange whitish material. Though neither are held in position to attack, the muscles of his body are taut and his green eyes dart quickly over Wilric, to the prone and bleeding body and back to Wilric. "I am Nuuko Half-Moon...of the Night Runners tribe." The tall elf watches the human's expression intently for any betrayal of recognition when he announces his tribe.

Xianna also moved from the shadows, but not as politely as Nuuko. She taps the man on the ground with her boot and says, "I think your friend is dead." The blue haired Tiefling scans the area around, looking for anything amiss. I can tell already, I should've stayed in the Cage, she thinks to herself.

"well things happen, if I have any spare time ill send his gear back to the fated, if not at least ill give him a hole to lye in, its the least I could do." Wilric stood up and walked over to Nuuko, and raised a hand to shake it "its a pleasure to meet you in this grim time Mr. Nuuko" Wilric's voice got serious "have ether of you fine gents seen a man named john?"

Wilric's voice got serious "have ether of you fine gents seen a man named john?"Xianna slightly snorts as the human says " gents" and does not offer her hand. Instead, she meanders in a deliberate circle around this poor dead berk on the ground. "not all shook up ovr' yer friend anymore, eh? Xianna asks in a smarmy tone. "I dunno any Johns, lest ye mean the one that earns his jink in da pit." she adds as she comes square with the 7' elf, crossing her arms. She felt funny, here in Elysium. Xianna felt a bit of portal lag and really didn't want to lean on this human at the moment. Instead, she postured herself between Nuuko and the city lights in the distance.

The relative quiet of the Plane of Rest is split by a deafening crack from nearby....
(Normally I'd have everybody pop in their own dice code to see how things turn out, but I'm trying to expedite things a bit to catch this group up with the other.)
Surprise checks (1, 2, or 3 = surprised)
Nuuko [dice=10+2]
Xianna [dice=10]
Wilric [dice=10]
(Haven't had any posts from Vahn or Sirocco in this thread, so they're automatically surprised.)[rand=197988692019439257942478198969834944511722808905004158256575104602]

...pinning his left leg as it knocks him to the ground.
A weight above and beyond that of the tree holds him fast -- an immense spider-like creature, little more than a silhouette in the darkness, stands over top of him, pausing to reveal its demonic visage in order to menace before the kill.
Perhaps most surprising of all is the coarse, sibilant whisper rasping through everyone's minds like a knife scraping across bare bone.
"EXPLAIN GUILT," it demands as the bebilith lowers its jaws threateningly toward Vahn's abdomen....

(OOC: There's another group? ) OOCAGAIN: ...what... just happened? I was posting, got called away by something, and when I come back and finish, roughly an hour later... I'm about to die. Huh. I was kinda figuring since I hadn't posted, I hadn't come through yet... a few things to secure before I left, something like that. Well, I've whispered the post I made, so... whatever. Guess I'll roll with this or something. [whisper=Stix]Stepping through the gate rather behind the other two, Vahn marks his book with a finger and tucks it under his arm before pausing to look around at the scenery. After taking a deep breath and sighing contentedly, he scans for the others. "Not a bad spot to visit," he says mostly to himself, "but I can't imagine what a body would live here for. A little sorrow is what makes the joys of life worth it." Strolling toward the sounds of talking and taking the easiest route, heedless of making noise or attracting attention, he walks up with a pleasant smile. "Find somethin' interestin' bashers?" Glancing down, his eyebrows shoot up and his smile fades to be replaced by curiosity. "Huh, dead sod... not quite the first thing you'd expect to find on Elysium." Croutching down to inspect the body (corpse? Unclear if he's finished with his death-scene yet) - and seeming either unaware or uncaring of their new acquaintance - he gives a start at the crack and almost falls, catching himself with his hands in time to avoid going face-first into the bleeding wound. (OOC: There's another group? ) (Yup -- this is Chapter II. The group traveling with the deva is in Chapter I, and Chapter III is waiting on everybody from here getting there.) OOCAGAIN: ...what... just happened? I was posting, got called away by something, and when I come back and finish, roughly an hour later... I'm about to die. Huh. I was kinda figuring since I hadn't posted, I hadn't come through yet... a few things to secure before I left, something like that. Well, I've whispered the post I made, so... whatever. Guess I'll roll with this or something. (As soon as the scene is started, if you're in it, you're assumed to be on-site. Travel through a gate is extremely unpredictable -- if you don't come through as part of the same group while it's still open, the time difference between planes could leave the folks on the other side waiting for you for hours. In the future, if you plan on hanging back, say so right away before we progress to the next scene.)

Nuuko just looks at Wilric's, but doesn't divest either of his own of their swords in order to shake the proffered hand. "I'm still a bit new to these faction things, but wouldn't the Fated rather have to come get it themselves instead of having someone give it to them? As for this John you're looking for..." his raspy, oddly-accented words trail off for a second, "you'll need to be a bit more specific. And why are you looking for him?"
No sooner does he finish speaking than the silence is broken by the ear-splitting crack. Instinctively raising his weapons and dropping into a slight crouch, the tall elf easily sidesteps the falling tree and giant spider. He begins eying the creature, trying to size up any potential weak spots. This thing doesn't hold itself like a kreen, so those tactics are probably going to be useless.
The unexpected and seemingly irresistible telepathic connection startles the Godsman for a split second, his eyes widen slightly in awe as it becomes obvious from their reactions that the others also heard the gritty disembodied voice. "You don't understand what guilt is or you want to know something he feels guilty about?" the Prime cautiously inquires.

The bebilith turns to face Nuuko, keeping one massive leg on the tree to keep Vahn from freeing his leg.
"WHAT IS GUILT?" the telepathic roar demands as the beast raises two of its forelegs as if in preparation to strike.

Out of the Bebelith's sight, the Indep motions to the trio with a horizontal slicing gesture while shaking his head emphatically. "Guilt... he grunts, his voice seeming to lose its native Sigil sound and take on a lecturing tone. "To be responsible for committing a crime of some nature, or the emotion associated with feeling responsible for a negative occurance, such as someone's injury." His mouth twists into a frown as he stares at the hulking creature above him. "To use a very real example, you are guilty of crushing my leg. As pertaining to law, many courts would consider that some form of assault." He moves as though trying to pull free, and is forced to stifle a groan. "Now would you get offa me or do you need me t' quote an entire soddin' dictionary?"

"DO NOT DEFINE," the bebilith demands, wheeling back on Vahn, jaws over his chest, drooling a hot, reeking venom. "EXPLAIN. WHERE DOES GUILT COME FROM?"
