“Gl’Fnak is correct,” Hadrian replied without turning. “Ysgard favors the brave. I myself have died more than once on these bloody fields; it is the reason why I wear these colors today. Do not think lightly of your mortality in this realm though, cutter, such can only lead to misadventure. We have a small window within which to complete our mission, and I cannot afford to wait while you find your way back from the mists.”
(OOC: I’ve been trying to find the second edition rules concerning this unique feature of Ysgard to no avail. Third edition was quite clear on the matter with the boon extending to both petitioners AND visitors. If I am making a mistake here, please correct me.)

"Wasn't thinking of ending my life on the plane." Hilathic says quietly, more to himself then anyone else.

With a wry grin, the Cipher replies, " I never think of my mortality." (OOC: I’ve been trying to find the second edition rules concerning this unique feature of Ysgard to no avail. Third edition was quite clear on the matter with the boon extending to both petitioners AND visitors. If I am making a mistake here, please correct me.) ((Should be in Planes of Chaos boxed set, which I don't have handy at the moment. Involves a resurrection check and a loss of a permanent Con point if successful...don't know if there's anything more to it. Petitioners are always reborn every day, having proven themselves while alive. Anyone else can be reborn in Asgard, but they have to die in a truly heroic manner; i.e., not just cut down in battle or crushed between earthbergs.))

(OOC: Found it, and you are correct sir. Big difference between 2nd and 3rd edition there. I suppose it makes no difference for Hadrian’s back story, but I’m no longer so confident about the bear. Under 3rd edition it’d return for sure. Under 2nd it’s less likely, though I suppose one could argue that dying while defending one’s home is a ‘heroic’ action.)

(OOC: ...I suppose it makes no difference for Hadrian’s back story....) (The only impact it would theoretically have would be on his Constitution score... perhaps he died once and a high-up priest gave him a Restoration to get it back to his racial max?) Outside the cave is a broad stretch of high, rocky hills, and the deep chill and blue-black hue of an Ysgardian midnight. Ribbons of fire drift and writhe through the sky like serpents slowly rousing from their winter torpor. The craggy landscape is wrought on an Arborean scale, and blanketed in ankle-deep snow topped with a thin crust of ice. Faint tracks in the snow wind through the hills, and a distant plume of smoke marks a campfire or settlement somewhere nearby. (While the cold here doesn't compare to the 1d6 damage per round of Paraelemental Ice, exposure here could still kill. I hope everybody brought appropriate protection from the elements. )

“We make for the fire light,” Hadrian exclaims, his breath misting in the air. Indicating the distant column of smoke with a nod of his head, the aasimar wraps his cloak tighter about him and sets off through the snow using his spear as a walking aid. “Eyes and ears open, cutters. You can bet anyone ‘round her will hear us coming so lets be sure we hear them too.”
(OOC: That could work, or Hadrian could have well been more vigorous before his death and has simply never been the same since. If you want a definitive answer I can provide one, otherwise I wasn’t going to dwell on it. Does an aasimar’s natural resistance against cold mitigate the winter chill?)

"Well this could be a problem," Hilathic says with some concern in his voice. Digging into the bag provided by Hadrian, Hilathic looks for some clothing.

Returning the glowing pebble to its small clay jar as they approach the mouth of the cave, Gl'Fnak steps out into the snow and takes a deep chestful of the crisp, heady Ysgardian air. Looking up at the snaking streams of fire unique to this plane, his grin broadens slightly. Seeing no more immediate threats, the tiefling sheaths his longsword and adjusts the straps of his backpack before setting off behind Hadrian. Seeing Hilatic digging through his pack and noticing the steam coming from all of them as they breathe, the Cipher unclasps his cloak and offers it to the nearly naked tiefling. "Probably shoulda gotten some clothes before coming to Ysgard," he says with a grin and a wink. Even without the cloak and tromping through snow up to his horse-like knees, Gl'Fnak doesn't seem to notice the pervasive chill.

Taking the offered cloak the small tiefling easily wraps himself up in it. Wading through the snow his thick hide protects him from most of the chill. "I usually visit warmer climates." Hilathic jokes.

(Half damage from cold doubles the length of time it would take to suffer from exposure. Any save bonuses also apply.)
