One by one, Hadrian, Gl'Fnak, Quicksilver and Hilathic cross the planar boundary into the darkness and cold (for those who've traveled to/through Ysgard before, the crisp headiness of the air and constant faint vibration of the ground are telltale signs that they've definitely reached their destination plane).
The portal seems to have grounded inside a sloping cave. Some forty feet away is the cave's mouth, barely aglow in the late evening light -- and from all around is the ominous sound of the heavy, slow breathing of some great, slumbering beast....

Stepping through the portal, Hilathic gets his first view of Ysgard, the inside of a cave. Speaking quietly, "There seems to be a hum in the air. Is that normal?" Hilathic inquires.

Stepping through the portal, Hilathic gets his first view of Ysgard, the inside of a cave. Speaking quietly, "There seems to be a hum in the air. Is that normal?" Hilathic inquires. "I dunno, short-stuff. Maybe ya shouldn't play wit' that thing so much, aye?" Silver quips, giggling as she gestures at Hilathic's harmonica. Straightening, she glances about the dark cave in silence. She listens to the deep, resonant breathing. What ever it was, it must've been massive to produce such a heavy, rumbling noise. Cracking her knuckles with her other hand, Quicksilver mutters to her employer. "I can scout ahead, if'n ye likes."

Looking to Hadrian for an official go ahead for Quicksilver, Hilathic can't help but add, "Better for the amazon to scout ahead then the little guy, if you ask me."

Quicksilver grins down at Hilathic. "Now yer talkin me language, basher. I could get used ta ye yet, aye?" She adds with a wink, leaning on him with her forearm propped on his bald head.
The woman stinks of cheap perfume, and the old blood encrusting her spiked gauntlets.

After the gate deposits them in Ysgard, Gl'Fnak takes a deep breath of the crisp, fresh air. In response to the other tiefling's question, the Baatorian nods and replies, "welcome to Ysgard, basher. As for scouting ahead, I wouldn't stray too far, this place and it's inhabitants are as shifting as Limbo," he adds with a shrug.

"The idea of of you scouting off by yourself becomes more and more pleasant," Hilathic says as he steps out from under Quicksilver.

"The idea of of you scouting off by yourself becomes more and more pleasant," Hilathic says as he steps out from under Quicksilver. Grinning from ear to ear, Quicksilver watches the little man side-step her, but makes no further move to harrass him. There would be time for that later. "Aww, ye're no fun, basher." She smirks at him, and turns to regard her other companion, and her employer; ignoring Hilathic for now. "I know Limbo. I was born there, spent much o' me time hoppin from Xaos, to Glorium, an' Fauna, so ya, I 'ave an idea how wild these places can get." Stretching and cracking her knuckles, she moves away a few paces to get a better view of their surroundings.

The first to step through onto Ysgard, Hadrian had remained strangely quiet through the course of the exchange between his minders. He stood off to one side as a man transfixed, eyes closed and breathing rhythmically. The air here was invigorating, electrifying even and he drank it in as though each breath might be his last.
Home again after so long...
"Gl'Fnak is correct," Hadrian observed at last, opening his eyes to the dark cave. "And scouting ahead is meaningless when we do not know in which direction 'ahead' lies. We must find a landmark and orient ourselves. But first..."
The aasimar cast his gaze about the cavern they had been deposited in, lapis orbs effortlessly penetrating the gloom. The portal he knew was a two-way specimen, and he was determined to ensure its security for their return.

Heaving a restless sigh, Quicksilver retraces her steps back to her companions, and stands beside the Madman. "So, where to from 'ere, skipper?" She asks, glancing about the darkened cavern, and hooks her thumbs in her belt. She was restless again - the crackling hum in the air resonated with the coiled tension in her body. She would have to do something, anything, soon, or surely she would go mad. Standing still and contemplating her surroundings wasn't something she was good at.
"I was given tha basic rundown of things, an' what's needed o' me, but not exactly why we're 'ere."Silver remarks to no-one in particular. She wasn't complaining, nor was she trying to pry into her employer's affairs. The woman was just bored; it was obvious in her movements, and the impatient tapping of her feet that she was anxious to get a move-on.
This was one chit that didn't twig to standing still for long.

In the brief silence after Quicksilver's words, everyone notices that the cave has fallen silent. A deep, bestial growl sounds in the darkness, and something closes the distance at an alarming pace....
(Initiative, everyone. 1d10 + the speed of your action [casting time or weapon speed] - enhancements from magic, dexterity, or special skills).

(OOC: While I realize Hadrian is not yet fully completed, I believe I have now converted enough to post …)
Hadrian whirls around at the creature’s approach, catching only a fleeting glimpse of its form in its incredible haste. Without giving pause for further thought, he begins to cast.
(OOC: Casting grease in the path of the charging creature, Hadrian has infravision so I assume targeting will not be an issue.)

(ok not doing that in a cave!)
Lifting his harmonica to his mouth Hilathic begins to play a powerful dirge. Two small projectiles form in the air in front of him and shoot forward into their intended target.

(don't have my books they are packed away, can someone tell me what unearth;y choir does?) Initiative" Trio: In this form the spell projects a cone of sonic force 120ft long, and 40ft wide at the base. All creatures within the area of effect must save vs spells or suffer 2d4 points of damage. Those who successfully save suffer only 1d4 points of damage. Undead suffer a -2 penalty to their saving throws. Quartet: With four voices the spell has the same area of effect as described above. However those who fail their saving throws suffer 2d4 points of damage, and are deafened for 1 round. Those who pass their saves suffer 1d4 points, and are not deafened. Undead creatures are not allowed a saving throw." I hope this helps. Upon hearing the growl, the tiefling's blue-hued longsword is in his hand in an instant. Letting his eyesight shift to the infrared spectrum, Gl'Fnak sets himself to attack the as yet unseen assailant.

The four travelers find themselves set upon by a large creature in the darkness they'd just entered. All of them instantly spring to action, defending themselves from their unknown aggressor. The human with the wicked gauntlets and the nearly naked tiefling both send several bolts of magical energy streaking through the cave to hit the monster which lets out a growling moan of pain. The Madman leading the group intones some sorcery of his own which makes the big furry assailant lose it's footing in time for the other tiefling to bring his silvery-blue blade down into it's thick pelt. Hadrian calls out in the darkness, "Protect your eyes, cutters!" The words have barely left the aasimar's lips when the horse-legged Cipher unleashes a blinding arc of fire from his fingertips. The pungent smell of charred flesh and burnt fur quickly fills the cavern as the attacker collapses in a heap, only a few feet away from Gl'Fnak. Scant seconds later, a glowing, magical light appears, filling the room and finally allowing the companions to see a dead and burnt bear on the floor of what they can only assume is it's wintering den.
((If Hadrian isn't still casting Light, since the bear is dead, Gl'Fnak will be drawing a small clay jar from his belt pouch and dumping out a pebble enchanted with Continual Light. So either way we'll all be able to see after the fight.))

"Bear. Anyone know any good receipts? Would be a waste don't ya think?" Hilathic rubs his eyes as they adjust to the new light in the cave.

“Waste?” Hadrian exclaims as he turns to face the light pouring in through the mouth of the cave. “On Ysgard only the aged lie still in their graves. By next light this cave will be defended once more. Remember that when we return.”
His words of caution still hanging in the air, the Bleaker set out from the grotto into the world beneath the open skies. .

Hurrying to keep up with Hadrian. "Are you saying that, if you are I die here, we will raise again by dawn?" Hilathic sounds excited, at this being the case. "Or is it on the inhabitants of this plane that, that works with?"

The tiefling listens to Hadrian's statement and Hilathic's following inquiries. "Close but not quite. The petitioners all rise again so the Norse gods will have their forces come Ragnarok. We'll only be given another chance if we die in what the Ysgardians consider glorious and honorable combat."
