The Open Shell Inn
Inn. Clientéle: Very diverse, with a prevalence of Sensates and Ciphers. Also draws a number of water beings. Atmosphere: A circular greatroom full of heavy tables of wood and stone. Mosaics of tile and shell line the walls, lit by lanterns inside glass spheres full of water and small, colorful fish which cast large rippling shadows throughout the establishment (to dim the lights by evening, the staff adds more fish to the tanks). Purified rainwater cascades in through a hole in the ceiling, pouring over shells suspended in midair before finally collecting in a small pool in the center of the room. To the left are a polished but well-worn wooden bar and the entrance to the kitchen; at the rear are the hallway and second floor spiral stair leading to lodgings. Proprietor: Bertram Ledginworth, a stout, boisterous middle-aged human, aided by his wife, his teenage son, and a handful of mephits. Bill of Fare: Menu selection and price vary based on going market rates. Usually-available items include a selection of vintages from across the Outlands, hard cider, beer, pork, fish, goat, Bytopian cheese and produce, and bread from local bakeries.
