Gl'Fnak's blade hits home again, just before he finds himself frozen in place on the downstroke. The bloodied and beleaguered fiend plants its claws on Abaia, gripping her foreleg and causing wounds to erupt from her steely exoskeleton.
The hatchling catches the mezzoloth's thigh firmly in its claws, holding it down as the most recently-gated fiend vaults over Tllith to skewer its fellow 'loth on its longsword. With a ferocious pair of sweeping slices, Abaia finishes it off.
Tllith, low enough to the ground and in position to see clearly underneath Abaia, spots the corpse of the first mezzoloth they brought down, now beginning to rise up in a mockery of life.
Nuuko's spellwork leeches the life out of the ground, and also from those nearby as he pulls together the necessary energy for the spell. With a grave silence, a cloud black as the Abyss congeals in the air, enveloping Jocyl and the three mezzoloths (4, 5 and 7) in a suffocating, chill darkness.
Mezzoloth #4, Int check to keep fighting the other 'loths instead of Nuuko (7 or less) [dice=20]

Tllith scampers back from the combat a few paces, and, well, kind of starts choking and hissing, with her head curled around back towards her body. After a little while, she exhales tremendously, as if she was using her breath weapon. And indeed she does produce a big cloud of desert-summer heat, all around herself and brushing up against several other people: hot enough to make those who can sweat, sweat. No damage though.
As a result of this, she grows considerably: half again her size, or maybe more.
Then she scampers back into battle. She's still the smallest person on the battlefield, but somewhat less than before.

Mere seconds after the mezzoloth's magic freezes him in place, Gl'Fnak's body starts to shimmer and flicker. The outline of his equine-legged form blurs and even looking directly at him gives the impression that he's moving back and forth very rapidly.

As the mezzoloth near him drops, Nuuko takes a few steps away from the cluster of his companions (at least to the edge of the gray circle of ash) before waving the bone knife and intoning some more bizarre sounds in the raspy, airy tongue of his race. When he finishes the complicated gestures, three bolts of magical energy form from the tip of the knife and streak into the cube of abysmal darkness. Once again, a circle of decay spreads out around his feet, this time only three feet in diameter, falling a little short of those near him.

(Spell-like abilities can't be used while held -- neither can psionics or spells [even those that don't require a verbal or somatic component]. A free 5' step still leaves Nuuko in the last radius, which means he's defiling that area again and widening it -- he'd have to take a whole round to reposition himself outside of it, and based on his warm and caring personality, I made a judgment as to where his priorities lie. ) "Behind you," the defending mezzoloth growls telepathically before bounding around the bebilith. It closes with the newly-animated corpse of its former fellow, slashing at it fiercely but having hardly any impact on the insensate thing. Nuuko's spell fires off a barrage of missiles through the curtain of darkness, expanding the existing radius of ash and painfully leeching the life energy from Gl'Fnak, Tllith, and Abaia. Tllith's spell appears to nearly double her in size (70% increase). Abaia bows her head low and, in an instant, all her wounds close. Where they seal shut, the armored plates seem lighter in color. In the midst of the group, the mezzoloth they had just dispatched lurches to unlife. "It will protect you," another mezzoloth whispers into the group's minds. The three mezzoloths caught in the cloud of unwholesome blackness scatter from within it, one of them caught in the chest by Xianna's own blast of magical energy. Round 11 Accumulated damage Abaia: 0 Mezzoloth #1: dead Mezzoloth #2: 0 (undead) Mezzoloth #3: 10 (undead) Mezzoloth #4: 43 Mezzoloth #5: 7 Mezzoloth #6: 51 (disabled, unconscious, or dead) Mezzoloth #7: 5 Mezzoloth #8: 0 Mezzoloth #9: 0 John: 24 Nuuko: 7 Jocyl: 6 Xianna: 4

(OOC: Glad I'm not the only one who got back after a hiatus and had that reaction Arte =P)
"'Scuse me!" Walking toward the thick the of the battle from back across where the nycaloth had previously shown itself - and carefully avoiding the anti-gravity zone - the Indep waves toward the mezzoloths, pointing upward. "Your beasty seems to've left you t' win or die, while ours just healed what little you'd done t' it. A surrender or retreat would be in order I'd say. That or bring in more o' your kin t' die, but I doubt you'll get much support doin' that."
(OOC: Dunno if you want me to roll or anything... just trying to make some aware of their situation and hopefully stave off further party injury. Plus, if the rest of the party is free of combat, maybe they'll be someone to catch John and Hadrian? =P)

After a few moments or so (or a round) of being lost and confused in the nothingness conjured by his "ally", Nukko, Jocyl realizes that he hasn't actually *gone* anywhere...unfortunately he turned around a few times initially, and so has no sense of direction beyond "up". Seeing no reasonable alternative, he picks a direction at random and walks at a comfortable pace, slashing blindly with his silvered short sword.

After the magical projectiles fly into the midst of the darkness, Nuuko slips the bone knife back into its sheath and resumes his physical assault with the broadsword lifted from the Taker's corpse.
