After leaving the monastery, passing the guards and crossing the footbridge, the open plains of Elysium stretch out ahead for many miles. A few pilgrims dot the terrain, making their way toward the hills of the conclave. One in particular, stooped under a heavy pack, is making his way straight toward the group, his mouth agape as he stares at Abaia.
"Now there's something I've never seen before...." The wanderer stops in amazement. "Uh, you cutters wouldn't happen to need any good linen, would you? I'm bringing it to the monastery as a tithe, but, heh, jink is lighter than a whole bolt of cloth, you know?" Never once does he take his eyes off the bebilith.

I'm bringing it to the monastery as a tithe, but, heh, jink is lighter than a whole bolt of cloth, you know?" Never once does he take his eyes off the bebilith. "We need linen! It will help us travel far, I think!" says Tllith, a bit jealous because usually she is the out-of-place monster who gets stared at. "But I have no jink here! I only have junk. And I cannot carry that big thing either. Oh, no! How can we do this? We have to do this! But how?"

"How much, cutter?" Hadrian replied, having no use for the linen but staring at the heavy burden with a mindful eye. He didn't much relish the thought of carrying it either, but he supposed it could be cut for bandages or some such thing.

He didn't much relish the thought of carrying it either, but he supposed it could be cut for bandages or some such thing. "Oh! Hadrian has the jink!" exclaims Tllith, as though that were almost unimaginable. She turns to Abaia. "If you wanted to be really helpful or a little bit punished, maybe you could carry the linen?" {Bard points at a couple things on Tllith's charsheet that might apply to such a request.}

" Pick whatever you like, I'm sure we can agree on a fair price," he says, opening his pack to reveal six long bolts of tightly-wrapped linen. He remains fascinated with the Abyssal creature, taking a hesitant step forward. " What *is* this?" the pilgrim asks in a strange tone, reaching slowly toward the bebilith. As he does, his form begins to flow like rapidly-melting wax, more mass spilling out and rapidly filling space to a height of nine feet, broad as a man is tall. " You've picked a strange form to wear in this place, deva," the roiling shape growls, resolving into a hulking, gargoyle-like fiend with massive, powerfully-muscles limbs. The exposed flesh is leathery and a sickly green; its face is like that of a slavering, devilish mastiff, and its wings furl forward to make the already gigantic being seem even larger and more imposing. Its clawed hands heft a huge, serrated axe, readying it to strike. Abaia bows her head. " Punish me for my guilt." The nycaloth raises its axe, prepared to oblige. John roars in anger, and challenge, drawing forth his morning star, not his sword, from his bag of holding, which he was reaching into anyway, about to grab some money for the silk, and will try to interspose himself betwixt the Bebilith and her would-be executioner, ready to cause some havoc on the nycaloth as he does so, face a little distended with rage at being so ambushed.
[dice=10+4] initiative for john, two handed weapon spec, using the morningstar two-handed[rand=072397928281117466704544867092134858592996079525111338247034893756]

Tllith warbles, "Abaia! You're doing it wrong! That is not the right punishment! Protect yourself now so we can punish you the right punishment!"
Most of the fight is far over her head, in more ways than one, but she pounces forth and tries to demolish the nycaloth's ankle with claws and teeth.
[dice=10+5] Initiative for Tllith, basic naive claw-claw-bite. [rand=892368205726652323763813074126938183278273345285464328778327755357]

Hadrian took a step backwards and drew his sword - or rather the sword he had claimed off of the Transcendent deader, poor sod. Rather than bring it to bear however, the aasimar began to chant, an urgent, forceful plea.
Initiative
[Dice=10+6]
Casting Prayer - upon completion everyone receives +1 to hit, and the Nyaoloth is at -1 for the same.

((Mechanics question: I'm sure the initiative dice are showing different numbers now than they were yesterday. I rolled a 14 the first time, same as the monster, but now I see an 11 for me and a 16 for it, so... how is this supposed to work?))

((Just thump it first. I think we all go before badguy in this case.)) ((I mean, what if I think I rolled a three and post about missing dreadfully, but the DM sees the roll as 18? )) (Die rolls may appear different based on the browser and the place they're viewed. I use Firefox, and view the die rolls in the thread itself -- if you use the "10 most recent posts" link, the dice code will have a different set of iterations on that page, and won't show the same results. Editing/deleting a post with a die roll in it may also change subsequent rolls, so please avoid that. (Here's what I have for initiative results: - Hadrian 7 (Prayer, everyone gets +1 attack/damage/saves, nycaloth gets -1)
- Sirocco 8 ([die roll 5, weapon speed 3] throwing light javelin [d4 damage], -2 nonproficiency penalty, firing into a melee [2-in-3 chance that the attack is directed at the much larger Abaia])
- John 10 (attack two-handed with morningstar [two-weapon style with a one-handed size M weapon doesn't affect speed, but gives a bonus +1 to damage])
- Tllith 13 (claw/claw/bite)
- Nycaloth 14 (attack Abaia)
(Let me know if anything anybody else has conflicts with this.)

Xianna snorts at the appearance of the Nycaloth, she has no respect for the treasonous bastards. However, she decides not to go with a frontal assault and decides to try to sneak around the fiend.
Inish: [dice=10]+ movement rate. I guess

Xianna snorts at the appearance of the Nycaloth, she has no respect for the treasonous bastards. However, she decides not to go with a frontal assault and decides to try to sneak around the fiend. Inish: + movement rate. I guess Sneaky rolls PM'd (Since this has come up a couple times, I'll clarify in a public post for everyone's benefit. In a big, confusing melee like we've got, where there's only one opponent but several people teaming up to take him down, backstabbers may attempt one Move Silently or Hide in Shadows roll per round as a full-round action, even if there's no cover. No initiative roll is necessary -- you're focusing for the full round on staying off the enemy's radar. If, in that time, you're targeted by one of the enemy's attacks (not necessarily hit, just targeted), the attempts are ruined, so it's a good idea to make sure he's good and occupied first. Getting into backstab position, therefore, takes two rounds; the attack happens on round 3. You may PM the skill rolls, or put them in the post, if you feel like showboating your high percentages )

Tllith wastes a few points of initiative singing
Bite, bite, bite your fiend Harshly on the thigh! Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily We will make it die!
((Dierolls are on Tllith's private dice board. Best roll is 18, and I think she needs a 19 to hit even with the Prayer. She whuffles angrily, and will take a different approach next round.))

Within a second of the yugoloth revealing its true nature, Gl'Fnak's longsword is in hand. He begins sidestepping around the melee. The Cipher hurriedly plucks one of the green rings from above his eye. While rubbing the little ring along the silvery-blue steel blade, he intones some gruff, unintelligible words.

Eying the sudden close-quarters combat that erupted behind him, Nuuko curses in Githyanki. The scout quickly exchanges his bow for a pair of long swords at his hips, one steel and one bone. As all of the others move in closer to the nycaloth, the lanky Prime narrows his eyes, studying their opponent.
